Community helps lifesaving services

Ducks4Dollars raised more than $50,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Hunter Surf Life Saving clubs.

The race was on Australia Day, Tuesday, January 26 at Queens Wharf, Newcastle, where 10,000 yellow ducks coloured the harbour for the big race.

Jamison Costo’s adopted duck, sold by Catherine Hill Bay Surf Life Saving Club won the duck race and he received $3000.

Paul Sweetman’s adopted duck, sold by Westpac Newcastle branch came in second place and he received $1000 and Wilhelmina Wright’s adopted duck, sold by Tea Gardens/Hawkes Nest Surf Life Saving Club came in third place and she won $500.

The Newcastle Herald won the sponsor’s race and the Birubi Surf Life Saving Club won the club race.

Nobbys Surf Life Saving Club volunteers helped out on the day encouraging the ducks to swim and in the right direction.
