Kia Pugh loves her new role.
The Marylands resident will star in Snoopy – based on the comic strip Peanuts.
In the Pantseat Productions version, she plays one of Charlie Brown’s friends, Peppe-rmint Patty.
Pugh, 18, said the prod-uction was different to others she had been in.
“Snoopy is pretty much the only chance you get to play a cartoon character. I’m really enjoying playing Peppermint Patty.”
Snoopy had been a familiar character to Pugh from a young age.
“I used to read the comic strips when I was younger even though I didn’t really unders-tand them.
“But it’s a sentimental prod-uction for me.
“Although it’s for kids there’s a hidden innuendo for adults.”
Pugh said she started acting and dancing when she was in high school because her friends were doing it.
“It was kind of like peer pressure, all my friends were doing it, so I tried it and I ended up really liking it.”
Pugh liked it so much, she went onto further studies and is about to receive a diploma in musical theatre from Newc-astle TAFE.
Peppermint Patty and the rest of the Charlie Brown crew will be on stage from today, January 14 to January 17 at the Civic Playhouse, Newcastle.
