Girl Guides Redhead is calling for new recruits.
The group is down to just four members and is also in need of another new leader.
Lake Macquarie division leader Erin Sandiland said memberships for most groups in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle hovered around the 20-person mark.
“The girls at Redhead are a very excitable and very energetic group,” Ms Sandi-land said.
“They have just moved up from junior ranges to rangers, so we are hoping to do a lot more outdoors activities with the girls, such as cooking and knotting.
“We are also looking at completing the special centenary badge this year.”
The Redhead facilities will be boosted in the coming weeks, after Girl Guides Redhead received two grants to upgrade its facilities, totalling more than $21,000.
A State Government community partner-ship grant and a Federal Government volunteer grant will go towards two new stoves, repainting the hall, an upgrade of exit signs, ramps, fly screens and a new vacuum cleaner.
Ms Sandiland said the upgrades to building were long overdue.
“The stoves were from the 1940s and did not work properly,” she said.
“We have other girl guides groups and other community groups staying overnight at the hall all the time – it is fitted out with bunk beds for 22 people and we need to get everything up to scratch.”
“Soon we will have a group of nippers from the North Coast staying there as they compete in the Surf Life Saving State Championships at Swansea-Belmont.
“The hall is a cheap alternative for those wanting to stay in the area.”
