The Hunter Region will pay tribute to a further 12 of its sporting champions at the 2010 Hunter Region Sporting Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
This 19th annual induction cerem-ony will be held at the South Newcastle Leagues Club on Sunday, May 16 at 10.30am, and this year’s 12 inductees will bring the total number of Hunter Hall of Fame Inductees to 278.
The 2010 inductees are:
>> Garry Banks for rugby league;
>> Grahame Baxter for off road racing/Formula 500;
>> Peter Horton for rugby union;
>> Jack Hutchinson (dec’d) for rugby league;
>> Ron Meadows (dec’d) for rugby union;
>> Marilyn Mills for goal ball – sport for the sight impaired;
>> Brooke Morrison for hockey;
>> Dick Osborn for harness racing;
>> Tony Pryor for car racing;
>> Hazel Ronay (nee Buck) for cricket and hockey;
>> Marguerite Jenkins (nee Ruygrok) for swimming;
>> Cheryl Salisbury for football/ soccer.
2009 inductee Natalie Ward will welcome the new inductees in to the Hall of Fame and Hazel Ronay (nee Buck) will respond on behalf of the 2010 inductees.
The ceremony is open to the public and there is no entry fee.
The profiles and memorabilia of these 2010 inductees along with those of hundreds of other prominent sporting personalities from the region will make up a first class display in the new Newcastle Regional Museum when it re-opens.
It is essential that the region as a whole and the sporting fraternity in particular support the hall of fame concept.
The Hunter Academy of Sport congratulates the 2010 inductees who add to the wonderful array of sports people already part of the Hunter Region Sporting Hall of Fame.
