260 of Australia’s best young basketball players have converged on Newcastle for the 2009 School Sport Australia Basketball Tournament.
The All Schools tournament features the best players from Public, Catholic and Independent Schools around Australia, with several local players featuring in this week’s tournament.
Alison Ebzery (St. Paul’s Gateshead) will represent NSW in the 12 girls division.
On day one of the tournament Ebzery led all scorers with 13ppg, and helped the NSW team comeback from a late game deficit to defeat South Australia in overtime 57-55.
The 18 girls’ team features Hunters ABA centre (Newcastle Grammar School).
The NSW girls suffered narrow loss early on day two against favourites Victoria 56-62.
The Victorian team also features former Hunters junior Olivia Simmons.
In the 18 boys’ NSW team, Matt Dick (St. Francis Xavier) represents the Hunter.
Dick played ABA for the Maitland Mustangs this season.
The NSW senior boys have made a solid start with two convincing wins over the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
Admission is free to all games at the Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium.
The excitement continues all week, culminating in the finals this Friday, August 14.
