Matt McGovern has led the Hunters ABA Men to an upset 110-94 win over three defending champions - Sutherland Sharks.
McGovern continued his brilliant form in the back half of the season, registering his second double in three games (34 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists).
Matt Cook almost emulated McGovern’s heroics with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.
The win showed fans glimpses of the bright future ahead for Rookies Mat Mujic (15 pts, 8 rbs), Adoc Makwai (14pts, 3 steals) and Akolde Mayom (13 rbs, 6 points) all having stellar games for the injury plagued Hunters.
The Hunters ABA Women kept their playoff hopes alive, with a solid 75-53 win over the Sharks.
Dimity Stewart (16 pts, 10 rbs) and Katie Ebzery (16 pts, 7 assists, 4 steals) led the Hunters women.
The Hunters had difficulty early in the game, but kicked ahead by six at half time 33-27, with back to back three-point baskets.
The second half was a gallop for the women, 42-26 to take out the match with ease.
The Hunters women have jumped to fifth place, but have a very tough run home.
They play league leaders Bankstown twice in their remaining four games, as well as second-placed Sydney and third-placed Hornsby.
The State Women split their weekend, with a 59-57 win over Dubbo, and a 57-69 loss to keep their playoff hopes alive.
While the Youth Women also secured a finals berth with a 66-49 win over Sutherland.
The Hunters travel to Bankstown this weekend, and return home the following Saturday, July 18 to take on Hornsby.
