Quality fishing rolls in with large tides

21 Jan, 2009 03:00 AM
The large tides in the early part of last week played an integral roll in the quality of fishing during the week.

The old saying of ‘no run, no fun’ came to mind as plenty of nice whiting where caught on the sand flats over the first couple of days in the week.

However, by the end of the week the bite had slowed somewhat.

Whiting numbers have improved along Stockton Beach as summer rolls on.

The Hunter River has had a steady run of flathead.

A welcome bycatch has been school jew.

There are lots of small jewies in the river at the moment.

A few bigger jew have been taking live tailor.

Game fishing season continues to produce fish – marlin has been the main focus.

Tackle Power’s John Balcomb teamed up with Ben Godfrey to compete in the Australian open bream comp held on Sydney Harbour.

After a strong start on day one and two, the pair was in second place, only to be pipped on the final day to third place.

This is a great result in the nation’s richest bream tournament.
