03 Mar, 2010 03:00 AM
Lake Macquarie was by far and away the most popular local fishing destination over the weekend.

The lure of a fish worth $40,000 mixed with fantastic weather saw many heading that way.

Good mixed bags of estuary fish have been caught through the lake.

Jew fish have as always been a much sought-after target.

Whiting are still showing up in good numbers on bait and poppers.

Tailor are another fish being caught in the main body of the lake.

The Hunter’s beaches have been fishing outstandingly well.

Many jew fish have been caught and some nice fish lost also.

Whiting are a popular catch on the beach at the moment.

The odd big tailor has been caught using pilchards at dawn.

Offshore fishing is still being dominated by marlin and dolphin fish.

Dolphin fish can be found around any floating object just about.

Trolling lures in current lines whilst looking for floating objects is a great way of covering some ground.

The FADS are an easy choice and plenty of fish can be found there.

Marlin have been holding around the schools of Slimey Mackerel in areas such as the car park off Nelsons Bay.
