Craig Nealon is marathon mad and is warming up for his biggest challenge yet.
The Bar Beach resident will run the Newcastle to Sydney 175-kilometre Great North Walk on November 14.
But this won’t be Nealon’s first challenge.
He recently completed the iconic North Face 100km challenge through the Blue Mountains last month.
The North Face challenge started with an elite field of 333 athletes.
There were only five rest stops pitted throughout the race – with some stops 22km apart.
Nealon seemed to cruise through the challenge, except for when he encountered a tough point in the race.
He had to run up hill for a staggering 8km through some unforgiving bush terrain but managed to get past it.
And all his hard work paid off, as Nealon crossed the finish line in 21st place with a time of 13.08 hours.
His preparation for this marathon included four months of solid training so Nealon could be mentally and physically fit for the prestigious event.
Another feat Nealon conquered was when he ran in the world famous Six-Foot Track Race also in the Blue Mountains as part of his training regime.
This event has been rated the toughest 45km marathon Australia has to offer.
Nealon will now concentrate on his preparation for several more events in the coming months.
These include the 800km K4K charity ride from the Gold Coast to Newcastle from August 23 to 28 and then the Newcastle Permanent Lake Macquarie 21km Half Marathon on August 30.
