Fabulous tome to be fishing in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie

01 Mar, 2010 09:43 AM
This time of year is a fabulous time to be fishing.

Everything from a whiting to a marlin has been caught during the past couple of weeks in the waters around Newcastle.

Stockton Beach has been the play ground for whiting and jew fish with the odd good-sized tailor thrown in for good measure.

Black marlin and dolphin fish have been providing offshore anglers with plenty to target. The fads have been hot spots for dolphin fish, most of the fish around the fads have been smaller but still great fun on some lighter tackle.

Live baits, trolled lures and soft plastics can all be used to catch a dollie.

The fad locations can be found on the DPI Fisheries web site.

Lake Macquarie is still flats fishing heaven for whiting on poppers, sammy’s and suga pens.

Bream have been about along with tailor, flathead and squid.

The reefs and wrecks are worth fishing for a jew or snapper with a live bait.
