Hunter Hall of Fame League legend loved to play a game

Jack Burnley Hutchinson was born on March 21, 1923.

He represented NSW schoolboys in rugby league from 1934 to 36.

Jack played with Northern Suburbs jun-iors from 1937 to 1941 representing New-castle each year.

In 1942 he joined the AIF, and began playing grade with Northern Suburbs.

Whilst stationed in Sydney he played the next three years with South Sydney.

During his war service he played in over 50 fundraising games, between the army, police, air force and all the Sydney Clubs.

In 1944 he was transferred to Darwin, and played in a competition started by Ray Stehr .

In 1946 he was discharged from the army and returned to Northern Suburbs, playing for NSW, and then being selected for the second test against Great Britain, which was played at Brisbane’s Exhibition ground.

He continued to represent Newcastle and played against New Zealand in 1948 and Great Britain in 1950.

Jack retired in 1953. However, he coached Northern Suburbs in 1961 and school boy sides for many years.

Jack was made Life Member of Northern Suburbs.
