Hunter Junior Life Savers of the Year

The winners of the highly regarded Junior Life Saver of the Year 2009-2010 were announced during Hunter Branch Championships hosted by Fingal Beach on Sunday, February 7.

In a dedicated ceremony following the traditional march past event, successful under 14 members Courtney Webb of Tea Gardens Hawks Nest and Daniel Caban of Swansea Belmont were recognised for their efforts and contibution to surf life saving and the community.

The award is acknowledged state wide, with the winners from each regional branch invited exclusively to a development camp hosted by Surf Life Saving NSW for three days of leadership, personal development, goal setting and networking with the other intratstate winners.

Finalists nominated by the remaining clubs are to be congratulated include Sarah Marley and Joshua Bolton of Catherine Hill Bay; Georgia McConville of Caves Beach; Emma Sullivan and Matt Smith of Cooks Hill; Matthew Newman of Dixon Park; Madeline Hicks of Merewether; Hannah Johnson and Nicholas Johnson of Nobbys; Maddison Logan and Joseph Barlow of Redhead; Hannah Haines and Hayden Edwards of Stockton; and Maddy Screen of Swansea Belmont.

After two days of exciting competition highlights included winners of the senior march past, Caves Beach and junior march past Swansea Belmont.

In the open iron person events, first in the ladies was Hannah Lemke of Cooks Hill, Emily Chaffey of Swansea Belmont in second and Danielle Radford also of Swansea Belmont in third place.

It was also first and second place for Swansea Belmont in the male event, with Josh Blair winning gold infront of fellow club man Adrian Tobin, with Kyle Garrett of Redhead claiming bronze.

Swansea Belmont also dominted both the open male and female taplin relay, and won gold in the male under 15 cameron relay ahead of Redhead in second and Catherine Hill Bay in third.

In the female event, Catherine Hill Bay won gold, with Redhead taking the silver and Swansea Belmont the bronze.
