Hunter Primary Schools Sports tennis team selected

03 Mar, 2010 03:00 AM
The Hunter Primary Schools Sports Association held its regional tennis trials last Friday at District Park.

Convenor Johnathon Russell from Irrawang Primary School and a former nationally ranked junior reports the selection of a strong side.

Congratulations Andy Bullent of Ashtonfield, Kell Jeffries of Redhead, Jordy Toby of Port Stephens, Nathan Munk of Nabiac and Rhys Searant of Charlestown on making the boys team and Adrienne Harvey of Cardiff South, Brianna Blick of Adamstown, Olivia Snow of Tuncurry, Mokusha Cundo of Tenanbit and Holly Pearson of Hamilton on making the girls team.

As you can see the successful players come from all parts of the Hunter, even as far north as Tuncurry.

The selection trials were very competitive, with some great contests.

The tough competition at the trials will only make the Hunter team stronger for the State Carnival in Bathurst on May 4 to 7.

Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre again featured heavily in team selections, Rhys Searant, Adrienne Harvey, Brianna Blick and Holly Pearson are part of the centre’s successful Pro Squad Program.

There is always something happening at Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre.

A new singles and doubles teams competition started last Thursday.

Twelve teams of two players competed in two divisions producing some exciting battles.

Tara Hamilton and Mitchell Williams defeated Ian Martin and Joel Herbert, Rebecca Collins and Krishna Feron defeated Scott Ledwidge and Scott Wakefield, and David Mathieson and Aaron Stair defeated Matt Reed and Witsawa Kanjanumpron three close sets to two.

Congratulations to Scott Wakefield on winning his first competitive match of singles.

Scott a former high level squash player has been enjoying the teamwork of doubles competition but impressed with his court craft in a comprehensive victory over Krishna Feron.

Following his outstanding form during the summer of tennis local lad Nick Lindahl has taken his tennis to the next level.

Formerly only an ATP challenger competitor, Nick was a first round competitor in the Delray Beach International, Florida, US.

Al though losing to German Florian Mayer the experience gained competing on the tour will only enhance his professional career.

We look forward to Nick rising up the rankings.
