Life is moving faster for 18-year-old athletics champion Tia Brady, both on and off the track.
Despite starting her first year of a physiotherapy degree and a new job at Energy Australia Stadium, Brady is in training five to six days a week preparing for the Australian Youth Athletics Champ-ionships and Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, both this month.
She also hopes to be at the Australian University Games in Perth later in the year.
The Adamstown Heights runner quali-fied for the NSW junior athletics team after winning gold in the U20 Women’s 800 metre at the NSW Youth Athletics Championships, held at the Olympic Park Athletics Centre in Sydney last month.
The win was a significant improvement on her fourth place in the U18s 800m last season – capping off a golden year.
It was Brady’s third state athletics championships for the 2009/10 season after already winning the 2009 NSW All Schools U17 800m title in November and the 2009 NSW Little Athletics U17 800m title where she also set a new state record.
Brady then added a silver medal in the U19s female beach flags and a bronze in the open women’s 2km beach run to her tally at the recent NSW Surf Life Saving Championships at Blacksmiths Beach.
When asked how she would manage her busy schedule, Brady said she planned doingher university work while away at the carnivals and did not think it would affect her performances.
“I competed at NSW All Schools last year and that was during my HSC and I won (the 800m),” she said.
“And I did well in my HSC, so it worked out well for me.”
With recent success spurring her on, Brady is hopeful of one day competing on the ultimate stage at Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
With her admirable work ethic, nothing seems out of the question for Brady.
