Merewether surfer Ryan Callinan had another great result over the weekend winning the Open’s in the Port Stephens Toyota Trails.
The win gives Callinan a wildcard into the main event of Surfest.
He defeated Jake Sylvester who received a wildcard in to the round of 96 the round before the main event.
Anna Bay surfer Kurtis Herman had a great result winning both the U16s and the Pro Junior division.
Herman receives a wildcard into the main round of the Pro Junior and a free entry into the U16s.
Jackson Baker won the U14s also giving him free entry to the event.
Surfest kicks off March 2 and goes through to the March 14 at Merewether Beach.
Taj Burrows won the four-star WQS Breaka Burleigh Pro over the weekend. He was in devastating form in the final, easily winning the event with a total wave score of 17.30 out of 20.00.
Burrows mixed the final up with power surfing and his radical aerial manoeuvres.
He defeated local Josh Kerr, Owen Wright and Hawaiian Dusty Payne.
The Quiksilver Pro will get underway this weekend on the Gold Coast.
This year will see an all new judging criteria suited more towards the aerial manoeuvres and much suited to the younger generation coming through.
