The State’s best athletes have proved their skill and fitness in spectacular surf over two weekends and three major carnivals at the 2010 NSW Surf Life Saving Titles.
Surf Life Saving NSW organisers were happy with the turnout, with over 8000 competitors taking part in the state’s most anticipated event.
Locally, the strongest club was host Swansea Belmont SLSC finishing in fourth place on a total of 234, behind leaders Manly 285, second Cronulla on 264 and Terrigal third on 256.
The next closest local club was Redhead in eighth position on 130 points.
The younger age groups showed the Hunter has talent with impressive results across the under 15 to 19 age bracket.
The Cooks Hill U15 male sprint relay team won their fifth consecutive title in their age group whilst Isak Costello lead the Swansea Belmont charge, winning three gold medals overall in the U15 ironman, U15 surf race and U15 male board relay.
In the open events, place getters included Troy Ham of Swansea Belmont winning the open male two-kilometre beach run with Boyd Conrick of Redhead in third.
Olympian Peter Scott also of Redhead showed he still has it winning gold in the open male ski.
Tia Brady of Dixon Park grabbed the bronze in the open women’s 2km beach event after finishing second in the U19 female flags and Tyler Williams of Swansea Belmont won the silver in the male board riding contest.
Swansea Belmont also won the open male single ski relay and the silver medal in the open male double ski.
Matt Smith of Swansea Belmont won the open male champion lifesaver event, Stewart Mc-Lachlan of Redhead placed second in the open male board and he doubled up in the Redhead A team with Mat Kent and Brendan Ross to grab bronze in the open male board relay.
In the surfboats, Dixon Park open men made the final to finish fifth overall. The Caves Beach Cavemen placed fourth in the open march past.
