Four hundred ocean swimmers made Commotion in the Ocean last Sunday, March 7, competing in the 1.5 kilometre journey swim from Spoon Rocks Beach to Caves Beach in the Caves Beachside Resort Ocean Swim.
Strong wind and choppy seas made things a little tough for competitors whose ages ranged from 12 to 71 years.
Line honours for the second year in a row in the elite men’s division went to Jarrod Killey in a time of 17:20 minutes.
Jarrod made it a trifecta on the day also winning the Commonwealth Bank Dash for Cash and being a part of a successful Hunter Swim Team, winning the Coal &Allied Teams Challenge.
Teenager Eliza Smith of Merewether also completed the same trifecta in the ladies events.
An event sponsorship cheque for $10,000 was presented to the Caves Beach Surf Lifesaving Club by Bill Saddington of the Caves Beachside Resort at the official presentation ceremony.
Organisers were extremely happy with the number of competitors taking part and are looking forward to planning for a bigger and better event in 2011
