In a joint venture between the Hunter Women’s Rugby Union and Sydney Women’s Rugby Union, the NSW Development team has been introduced to play at Nationals held on the Gold Coast between July 1 and 3.
The aim of the team is develop women’s rugby in both the Sydney and the Hunter regions by not only providing access to experienced coaches but also the chance to be selected in the national Wallaroo squad.
The team will incorporate nine players from each region and four additional spots for indigenous players.
Hunter travelled to Penrith last week for the trial match against Sydney A for which jerseys in the NSW Dev team were up for grabs.
Hunter annihilated Sydney A with a 7 try to 1 thrashing.

NSW Country Women opened their representative season recently with a tight victory over ACT 10-5.
Player of the match Rebecca Trethowan scored two tries and was backed up by some strong running from back rower Dayle Clampitt and Australian Wallaroo Tobie McGann working tirelessly at full back.
The Country Women then backed up to play the formidable Sydney side the next day but after a credible performance unfortunately went down 29-5.
Wallaroo hooker Margaret Watson made a blistering 25-metre run in the second half to score Country’s only points.
Player of the match honours, however, went to lock Laura Brisbane, who spent the game dominating the line out.
Around the ground this weekend saw competition leaders Wanderers show why they are a force to be reckoned with after shutting down Hamilton 54-0 at Passmore Oval.
Wanderers’ goal kicking sensation Amelia Withers was again on fire landing seven out of eight conversions.
