But Kings Cross police say they still have not heard from "a number of crucial witnesses" to the assault on father of one William Duque Castillo, 33, which took place on a busy street in Kings Cross about 11pm on December 18.
"It is vital that these people ... make contact with police to ensure that all circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Duque Castillo can be determined," police said in a statement.
Mr Duque Castillo's family turned off his life support just before 4pm yesterday, hours after his mother and wife fronted the media to make a public appeal for information about the attack.
About 20 people were present when the 33-year-old was chased down Bayswater Road by three security guards from the Trademark Hotel, who had refused entry to Mr Duque Castillo, his brother, Wilson, and another man.
Police confirmed that some in Mr Duque Castillo's group became aggressive when they were turned away from the hotel. It is believed a knife was pulled on the bouncers that night.
The security guards then allegedly pursued the three men for about 150 metres down Bayswater Road, and around the corner to Darlinghurst Road, where Mr Duque Castillo - a father of one - was fatally injured.
Former rugby league star John Hopoate has been charged over the alleged assault. There is no suggestion Hopoate was involved in Mr Duque Castillo's death.
Mr Duque Castillo is survived by his wife Raquel and their four-month-old son, Dylan.
Police appealed for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
