SUMMER is here and the fishing is as hot as the weather.
Anglers have been taking full advantage of the flat seas to head to the wider reefs off Nelson Bay and the Central Coast.
Schools of slimy mackerel have been found on these reef areas, with plenty of yellowtail kingfish around the slimy schools.
Live baits and squid have also accounted for snapper and blue morwong up to three kilograms, as well as a few trag jew and John Dory on the deeper reefs.
Beach fishing for whiting has been going well, with plenty of great fish being caught.
Sunrise has been the best time to fish at the beach.
Whiting have been caught on Stockton Beach, as well as Dudley Beach, but there are many other beaches worth a look.
If beach fishing is not your thing, there are good numbers of whiting in Lake Macquarie too.
Game fishers will be happy to know that the FAD off Nelson Bay has been redeployed after going missing, so give it a couple of weeks to fire up and head out in search of a dolphin fish.
One angler found out the hard way that there are some blue marlin offshore after he was spooled by one.
All our game fish are starting to show, with the East Australian Current bringing warmer water.
