SINGER David Geise hopes to sneak on stage when Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan performs at this year's Newcastle Permanent Carols by Candlelight at Speers Point Park.
Geise, who will perform as part of The KDL Trio, has been following Donovan's career before she made her television debut.
"She has such an amazing voice," Geise said.
"I'd happily share the stage with her any day."
Geise, 25, along with fellow group members Luke Baker, 25, and Kirsty Bowden, 21, will make their carols debut as a trio at this year's event.
The KDL Trio formed in March, meeting through Newcastle's talent school scene.
They will perform three numbers - Sleigh Ride, The Christmas Song and All I Want For Christmas Is You.
Geise is excited to perform for a home crowd.
"It will be my first Christmas home in about five years and I'm really looking forward to it."
Geise said he loved Christmas, and being a part of carols was a wonderful way to celebrate the festive season.
"It's the best time of year.
"The families all get together and have a good night out."
Also performing are ARIA award-winning pop singer Jenny Morris and Sydney singer-songwriter Joe Moore.
The carols will be held this Sunday, December 9, with markets and amusement rides from 11am.
A family movie and stage entertainment will run throughout the afternoon.
The carols start at 6.30pm and fireworks will end the night at 9pm.
■ Remember to take your songbook, which is wrapped around this week's paper.
