FILMS dominate Newcastle's entertainment and cultural scene for the next week.
Not just this summer's big blockbusters - The Hobbit, The Life of Pi, and Les Miserables - but local cinematic events.
The new kid on the block is Summer Cinema at The Lighthouse.
The inaugural outdoor summer film festival, organised by The Other Film Society (TOFS), will feature three award-winning foreign films at Nobbys Lighthouse.
The festival starts this Saturday, January 19, with Monsieur Lazhar, followed by The Giants on February 19 and A Simple Life on March 16.
Entry is by membership, $70 per person for the three-film festival, and must be bought prior to the first screening.

Festival goers are encouraged to bring a picnic.
Gates open at 6.30pm and the screening starts just after sunset.
The other outdoor event is Newcastle Permanent's Cinema Under the Stars at King Edward Park this Saturday.
For five years, the building society has held the free family-friendly event to give something back to the community.
In its sixth year, the animated children's movie Brave will be the feature flick.
There will be entertainment from 5.30pm and the screening starts at sundown (about 8pm).
Families usually bring picnics, however, food can be bought on site.
Meanwhile, the Six Summer Flicks festival at Tower Cinemas will have already paved the way during the week for this film feast.
In its fifth year, the festival organised by the Newcastle Art Society features international cinema with all proceeds going to the society to help donate artworks to the Newcastle Art Gallery's collection.
The festival started yesterday with Anna Karenina and will continue with Chinese Take-Away tonight.
The Angel's Share will screen tomorrow, Trishna on January 22, Monsieur Lazhar on January 23 and Paris Manhattan on January 24.
All films screen at 6.30pm.
