Celebration of all things sea at the Newcastle Port

NEWCASTLE'S maritime history will be put in the spotlight this Australia Day.

Newcastle Port Corporation will run free tours from Queens Wharf throughout the day.

A navy mine hunter vessel will be open for inspection from 10am to 3pm.

The ship will be berthed at No. 1 Throsby Basin Wharf off Honeysuckle Drive.

Patriots will also be able to enjoy the return of the tug boat ballet, which starts at 12.30pm. Fort Scratchley will fire its guns at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Australian Ski Championship will hold five races across the day.

A Quick and Dirty boat builders race will be held at 3.15pm at the western end of the Maritime Centre.

A Catalina flypast will start at 1pm, with Maxx-G aerobatics displays at noon and 2pm.

Children can also enjoy shipwreck stories and treasure hunts at the foreshore.
