Marlin numbers up this summer

MARLIN numbers have increased by the day.

The water north of Broughton Island has been very active with numbers of small black marlin being caught.

Many more fish have been able to dislodge hooks or seen free jumping.

One local angler released a blue marlin estimated at 100kg; this fish took a Pakula Fluzi.

The Mulloway action has eased a little in Newcastle Harbour. The size of fish being caught is still outstanding, however, numbers have decreased a little.

The full moon on the  Australia Day long weekend should see an increase in numbers of fish and anglers.

The wrecks off Newcastle are producing mulloway and snapper.

Snapper have been much sought after around Broughton Island and Edith Breaker and good catches have been reported. There has also been plenty of squid caught on the shallow reef areas.

Some big bonito have been caught around the end of Stockton breakwall using small metal lures.

Beach fishing is worth a shot with plenty of whiting being caught.
