More than a pretty face

BEAUTY might be important, but there are plenty of other qualities that Jessica Thompson will be searching for in the upcoming Newcastle Showgirl.

As one of three judges for the show, Mrs Thompson said she would be on the prowl for young Novocastrian women who have ambition to succeed, not only at the show but in their everyday life.

She is seeking a woman who takes pride in her presentation, is confident and able to engage all different people in a personal way.

Mrs Thompson is looking forward to meeting the competitors and getting to know the local talents.

With years of experience in the industry, and previously a competitor in beauty contests in Australia, Mrs Thompson is more than equipped for the role of judge.

‘‘The great thing about the Newcastle Showgirl event is that we are expecting to see many young women who are not just beautiful but who also have many other unique qualities,’’ she said.

‘‘Local girls know about the city and what it needs and how they can help make a difference.’’

In a showgirl first, the Advanced School of Beauty Therapy will sponsor the event – with the hope it can help inspire and encourage young women in the region to take on a career through study and go further, even on an international stage.

The Star is also a sponsor of Newcastle Showgirl.

■ Entries for the Advanced School of Beauty Newcastle Showgirl competition close on Friday, February 15, at 4.30pm. Entrants must be aged between 18 and 25. Go to newcastleshow.com.au for more information and entry forms.
