RAIN is the order of the day while I write this week's fishing news.
Prior to the wet weather, which dominated much of the weekend, the inshore reefs off Newcastle have been fishing nicely.
Plenty of tailor and bonito have been caught, with pockets of snapper.
Swansea Bridge has seen plenty of action - from anglers tossing large poppers in search of yellowtail kingfish, with some luck.
Halco, black magic and awsb make the most popular models.
Swansea Channel has had some arrow squid about as well.
Moon Island is worth a look for bigger green-eyed squid.
Lake Macquarie is the place to head if you are on the chase for whiting, and remember if you are out on the sandflats use live worms.
Also, there are plenty of tailor to be caught around the drop-over.
Flathead have been about and plenty have been caught using soft plastics.
Marlin have been caught in as close as the ships anchored off Newcastle and to the north of Broughton Island.
Stockton Beach and breakwall as well as Newcastle Harbour continue to produce mulloway.
The Hunter River has been fishing well for flathead and bream.
