WOODEN spinning tops are sure to turn heads at the Woodturners of the Hunter Co-Operative exhibition at the Newcastle Show this year.
Over the three-day event, enthusiastic and knowledgeable members of the co-operative will craft spinning tops from wood offcuts as giveaways for patrons.
Many people are anticipated to return to the exhibition this year to add another spinning top to their collection, as the club has been running the giveaway for more than 10 years.
This year, Woodturners of the Hunter will celebrate its 30th year at its annual exhibition at the Newcastle Show. The exhibition is held in an original Newcastle Show pavilion from about 1908.
In 2000, the club's members extensively restored the pavilion to become a clubhouse that could also be used as an exhibition space.
Traditionally, a percentage of sales is donated to John Hunter Children's Hospital Kids Club and more than $250,000 has been given over the past 10 years.
■ Woodturners of the Hunter will exhibit at Newcastle Showground, March 1 to 3.
