RESTORATION work on the Merewether Baths and City Hall Clock Tower is set to start next year, after the council accepted a $10 million loan from the state government.
The low-interest loan was part of the state government's Local Infrastructure Renewal Scheme - which subsidies 4 per cent of the interest cost for infrastructure renewal projects.
Work at the Merewether Baths will rack up a $2.5 million bill, with work on the City Hall's Clock Tower is budgeted at $7.5 million.
The clock tower is just one of a number of repairs needed at the civic hub, with the total cost of the crumbling sandstone City Hall revamp estimated to reach a total of $27 million.
The director of city assets Steve Edmonds said the council was in the process of disposing of assets to address the ongoing backlog issues and work on these two sites was a priority to avoid any ongoing deterioration.
