Halcyon days in Hunter

THE fishing does not get much better than what we are experiencing around Newcastle and the Hunter.

The reef fishing off Newcastle has been very good.

Mixed bags of flathead, snapper, trevally and teraglin jew have been caught on dumping ground and gravel and plenty of other reefs.

Beach anglers have been getting plenty of lovely whiting as well as some good bream, flathead and some mulloway.

Stockton Beach has been the most popular location.

Stockton break wall remains the place to be if mulloway are your desired fish.

Live baits have accounted for fish up to 23kilograms  with many others   caught.

Lake Macquarie has been going great with plenty of nice flathead coming from around the points.

Whiting and bream anglers have been having a good time of it around the sand islands using live worms and surface poppers.

Game fishing has started to hot up after the wet and windy weather of late January.

Large numbers of marlin have been caught.

Some nice yellowfin tuna were caught last weekend off Nelson Bay and a short billed spearfish.

Bass fishing in the Hunter Valley impoundments has been equally good with fish hitting a variety of lures.
