MORE than 120 artworks have been submitted for the art and photography exhibition at this weekend's Newcastle Regional Show.
Acrylic and paint canvas works, watercolours, pastel, charcoal and even sculptures - there is a piece to suit everybody's taste.
The challenge for Newcastle show art committee chairperson Sue Quadrelli will be selecting five winners.
The five categories: traditional painting, contemporary painting, works on paper, sculpture and the young artist award.
This will be the 13th year Mrs Quadrelli and Hunter Laser Vision have directed the show.
With the expectation to see a high calibre of work from local artists, Mrs Quadrelli said she expected this year to be the best yet.
Mrs Quadrelli said the best thing about the pieces submitted was understanding the story behind them.
As The Star went to press, Mrs Quadrelli and judges were deciding the winners.
■ The show kicks off at the Newcastle Showgrounds this Friday, March 1, at 9am and wraps up on Sunday, March 3. Go to newcastleshow.com.au for more information.
