But that is exactly what the Wallsend Youth and Community Brass Band is inviting Novocastrians to do.
The brass band can be found practising a range of genres each Monday evening, from marches to traditional hymns; theme songs and even the occasional rock anthem can be belted out.
The band is made up of 20 people, from 10 years old right through to mature aged musicians looking to fulfil lifelong dreams of learning a musical instrument.
They are looking for others to join their band.
Led by musical director Ossie Jellyman, who has been playing brass instruments for more than 50 years, the band performs up to four times a year.
"People can go away from practice and feel like they have really achieved something, you really can get that sense of satisfaction," Mr Jellyman said.
