The pair are part of a group of 15 up-and-comers from various Lake Macquarie sporting clubs who have been selected to compete at the 2013 International Children's Games, to be held in Windsor.
Fourteen-year-old Matteo, from Belmont Christian College, will compete in the shot-put, long jump and 4x100 metre relay.
Emma-Sue, also 14, and from Hunter Sports High School, will compete in the high jump and 4x100m relay.
This will be the fifth games Team Lake Macquarie has taken part in since 2008.
This year, six girls and four boys will compete in athletics, with another three boys competing in gymnastics and two boys competing in tennis.
Lake Macquarie is the sole Australian team this year, with 82 teams from 30 countries entering.
Canada plans to send the most teams with nine, while the United States will send six, Mexico seven and Germany four.
Team Lake Macquarie will leave for Canada on Saturday, August 10, and arrive back in Sydney on Wednesday, August 21.
Lake Macquarie mayor Jodie Harrison will bring back the International Children's Games flag, which Lake Macquarie City Council will hold in its chambers until Lake Macquarie hosts the games next year, in December 2014.
