The girls get back to the model mansion and find a letter from Taylah post-disqualification. She tells Ashley in the letter that it's not her fault and not to blame herself – but again stops short of actually apologising. Ducky reminds us in true Top Model spirit that if Taylah hadn't been disqualified, she might not still be sitting here herself!

The girls head to the head office of fashion label Manning Cartel, and after Jen name-drops Manning Cartel another 10 times, she tells the girls it's time for a crash course in catwalk. The ever-articulate Abbie tells us that "walking is one the things I wanna have as a major in my career." I would have thought walking was one thing you'd want to have down pat in your day-to-day life, Abbie. I suppose they do say that true geniuses struggle with the more mundane facets of everyday life such as, er, basic motor skills.

Melissa reminds us to stand up straight and don't fall over. Good call. Self-confessed non-fashionista Ashley points her hands out awkwardly while she walks, and Shannon trips up twice as Jen and designer Gabrielle Manning struggle to come up with original material for each of the nine girls. Despite Dajana's self-proclaimed "fierce" strut, Abbie and Shanali come out on top in today's lesson.

Back in the mansion, the girls practice their runway walks one-by-one while the others critique. What could possibly go wrong? Bitchiness predictably ensues and Ashley cracks it when the other girls laugh at her walk. She skulks away to have a cry in bed while caressing a photo of her boyfriend. Moving right along ...

The girls get dolled up for this week's challenge, for which the prize is a paid national Colgate campaign. Shannon reckons her and her big teeth have got this one in the bag, and she might just be right. The girls think they are going for castings, but they don't know that they're secretly being watched by Alex Perry on hidden cameras from the moment they step foot into the building. All of the staff are in on the gag, trying to catch the girls out – or more accurately trying to provoke some un-model-like behaviour.

"Have you got a lazy eye?" rude receptionist #1 asks Dajana, but she keeps her cool and handles it well, despite his hounding: "I think it's your left one". She goes on to nail her interview and test photos. Madeline is asked by bitchy receptionist #2 to randomly hold a vase of flowers outside the interview. After a while she puts them down, only to have the receptionist come back and berate her. She's polite but it clearly puts her off. Alex loves Jade's natural reaction to a diva in the reception area falling asleep practically on top of her. She also nails her interview and photos. Ducky is made to quack like a duck, and Melissa might have cottoned onto something with some very average acting from fake secretary #2, who mistakes her for an intern and screams at her to immediately fetch four coffees, Devil Wears Prada-style. Crazy bad actress proceeds to seriously creep Shanali out by making her talk to a garden gnome and then spills a glass of water all over Abbie, but both girls are unfazed.

Alex sits back watching the cameras and says Ashley and Shannon are uptight, disinterested and have attitudes. Pottle, kettle, black – designer, model, bitchy.

After much deliberation between Alex and Mr Colgate, they announce that the winner of the challenge and the national ad campaign is Jade, due to her effortless dealing with a narcoleptic diva, her energetic interview and effortless pictures. She reminds us that eight weeks ago she was just chillin' in Blacktown – how times have change. Alex proceeds to rub failure in Dajana's face by telling her that she was good, but just not good enough.

It's time for the photoshoot. Charlotte Dawson tells us that the theme is glamour and introduces photographer Simon Upton. But wait, there's a twist. The girls have to, wait for it, SMILE! (I'm sensing a theme developing ...)

First up is Shannon, who nails it, but Melissa struggles again this week due to her inability to, um, smile. Duckie, who now has pink hair, performs strongly with her enthralling natural smile. Abbie's smile is fine, but her body is stiff. Jade sizzles in red but is slightly nervous after Charlotte tells her that one of her photos will be used in the actual campaign she just won. No pressure. Shanali takes her time to warm up, but eventually masters the ancient arts of smiling and laughing. This really is Mensa material.

Cut to Ashley crying – again (what is this, MasterChef?) – because she thinks she's put on weight. But Charlotte soon sets her straight and she smiles gracefully throughout the shoot. Madeline (predictably) struggles, despite having photo of the week last week, due to her inability to project. Simon gives her a flimsy 50 to 60 per cent. Charlotte has high expectations for feisty Dajana in this shoot because of her naturally big personality. Despite the added pressure, she kills it.

Back in the elimination chamber, Ashley tells us in her voice over that she would be "shattered" if she was to go home this week. This girl cries at the drop of a hat, so I don't think any of us want to find out what her "shattered" looks like. Jade tells the judges that she feels "friggin' amazing" to be the new face of Colgate. Her photo is stunning, as is the mock-up of her ad campaign. Dajana also pulls off a great pic, even earning a "chic" from expensive Alex Perry himself. Madeline manages to deliver an average photo despite a hit-and-miss performance (again) on the shoot. Pink-haired Ducky shows off the most exuberant smile I have EVER seen in a truly killer shot. Ashley also delivers a beautiful photo, but looks a little younger than the "sophisticated" brief called for. Charlotte says she's jealous and would kill to look that young, but Alex quickly reminds us that it's never going to happen. Abbie's lips are a little mismatched, but she pulls off a decent (though not great) shot. Melissa unfortunately delivers a "really weird" and "awkward" photo that fails to fulfil the brief. Shannon's '90s supermodel look does her favours this week, and Shanali rocks it, yet again.

Duckie takes out photo of the week with her truly epic smile, followed closely by Jade in dazzling red. Also through are Dajana ("Snaps for Dajana!"), Shanali, Shannon, Ashley and Abbie. Madeline and Melissa step forward to see who is safe and who is going home. Jen says the judges have doubts about Madeline's ability to perform on photoshoots, while they aren't sure of Melissa's versatility. She says only one of them has genuine potential, and that girl is .............................................................. Melissa. Phew. Despite being in the bottom two for two weeks running now, Melissa still has that certain something special. Madeline says her journey isn't over and she hopes to go far. Eight girls are now left. Next week, the girls grapple with sand and surf in the mandatory water shoot.
