The new shop in the heart of Hamilton, on Beaumont Street, when it opens next month will replace the Hamilton South store on Hassall Street.
The Samaritans wanted a shop that could house more stock than Hamilton South and a location with more passing traffic.
Samaritans retail co-ordinator Pauline Cellers hopes the better exposure will attract good quality donations so more money can be made to fund Samaritans programs.
Samaritans distribute its op shop profits to help fund its emergency relief centres and some programs.
These programs are usually only partially funded by the government.
They include legal aid, Centrelink options and housing facilities for people post-release from prison and alcohol and drug rehabilitation centres.
The Samaritans Hamilton Op Shop, 19 Beaumont Street, is expected to open in early September.
■ Donations can be dropped off at any Samaritans op shop - Wallsend, Mayfield, and Hamilton South - or Samaritans central office in Warabrook.
