HUNTER Street’s appearance may change as early as next year if Newcastle City Council approves a trial for its improved vision.
The plan includes cycle lanes and parklets, which typically include seating, landscaping and bike racks.
Built on both sides of a 1.6-kilometre stretch of Hunter Street, the cycleways will extend between Bellevue Street in the west and Perkins Street in the east, with parklets appearing between Auckland and Crown streets.
Under the plan, the four travel lanes in Hunter Street will be reduced to two.
It is expected that parking and transport will not be affected.
