A BUSHFIRE narrowly missed homes in Little Pelican by just 100 metres last Wednesday, September 4.
Firefighters were called to the bushfire between Little Pelican Road and Lakeview Parade about 12.30pm.
The one-hectare fire was at first inaccessible to the crews but was eventually extinguished by 2pm.
Last week the NSW Rural Fire Service issued a warning to residents across the Hunter, highlighting the risks of grass and bush fires over the coming months.
The NSW Rural Fire Service said it was the warmest winter on record. This, coupled with dry conditions, has helped fuel more than 1180 fires across NSW in the past month.
Most of NSW has been classed as having "above normal fire potential" for the 2013-14 bushfire danger period.
Hunter firefighters have been working seven days a week to reduce the massive amounts of dry fuel loads, including recent hazard reduction burns at Blackalls Park, Cooranbong and Barrington Tops National Park.
