HUNTER Academy of Sport talent development squads are continuing their programs of squad activities - notably the surfing, clay target shooting, track and field, sailing, cricket and lawn bowls squads.
The boys in the junior cricket squads are working hard as they prepare for their upcoming season.
They practised at the Thornton Indoor Centre last Sunday and have a further session at the same venue this Sunday under the guidance of coaches Neil McDonald and Mike McKenzie, and program co-ordinator Jason McKendry.
The boys in these two squads are: Under 14 - James Beatty, William Davis, Greg Hayes, Luke Hitchcock, Noah James, Zach Mace, Wilson McTaggart, Alex Matthews, Keith Moody, Luke Muddle, Sam O'Sullivan, Michael Richardson, Sam Sanderson, Jason Sangha, Andrew Saville, Dan Standing, Tom Wesche and Adam Winchester.
Under 16 - Duncan Brown, Daniel Chillingworth, Alexander Cook, Jonty Dicks, Liam Dwyer, Joseph Hart, Ben Herring, Patrick Huolohan, Griffin Lea, Callum Linsley, Harry Macansh, Zac McGuigan, Jake Radford, Ben Roberts, Andrew Somerville, Tim Studdert and Jordy Toby.
Nominations are still being called for the 2013 Hunter Region School Sports Awards.
These awards are presented initially on a monthly basis, and each of the monthly award winners is then considered for the annual awards.
There are four categories: primary school girl, primary school boy, secondary school girl and secondary school boy.
Monthly winners each receive a medallion, and the annual winners receive a further medallion and financial support in the form of a scholarship.
To qualify for a school sports award a boy/girl must have:
■ Represented his/her school, zone or region with distinction in his/her accredited inter-school competition(s) in his/her selected sport(s).
■ Demonstrated high levels of leadership, dedication and sportsmanship while participating in school sporting activities.
■ Shown good school spirit - a general willingness to participate in and support school sporting activities.
■ Demonstrated appropriate behaviour at all times, both on and off the sporting field.
■ Been considered to be a good school member with respect to co-operation generally and maintaining acceptable levels of academic progress.
