NEWCASTLE will host the inaugural Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games in December, with 23 Hunter athletes named as part of the squad.
They will be part of the 400 Australian athletes with an intellectual disability to compete at the games.
These Hunter athletes have trained hard with their volunteer coaches to have this opportunity to share their determination, courage and sporting talent.
They have also been working hard to raise $2900 each ($66,700 in total) to be part of the games.
This Friday, October 4, they will host their last major fund-raising event - a golf day at Pacific Dunes golf course.
The public is encouraged to be part of the day to help support the local athletes to have the opportunity to wear the green and gold.
Team entries and sponsorships are still available.
