Having won the second round at the Newcastle Velodrome earlier in September, Ivory was leading the pack at the start of the race.
However, one lap down he suffered a tyre puncture, which ended his race.
For the rest of the race Garry Milburn and Newcastle’s Chris Aitken were neck-and-neck, while current NSW state cyclocross champion Nick Both attempted to nudge his way in.
Milburn and Aitken tried to unhitch each other on the technical eight-lap, 2.5-kilometre course.
The race was close until Milburn bypassed Aitken in the last section of the course, crossing the finish line first.
It was Milburn’s second Newcastle Cyclocross win.
Both came third.
With volunteers’ help, the one-day event raised $1200 for the National Stroke Foundation, which supports people affected by stroke and their families.
