SIXTY Novocastrians sacrificed comfort and security last Friday night as they showed their support for the thousands of homeless people in the Hunter.
They were part of the Hunter Homeless Connect Community Sleep Out, an event that aims to raise awareness about homelessness.
It is estimated about 3000 people sleep rough in the Hunter each night.
Newcastle lord mayor Jeff McCloy was among those who participated in the event.
Hunter Homeless Connect raised $3300 through sponsorship.
More than $1000 was raised at the luxury goods auction, where cardboard was sold to sleep on, keeping the organisation on track to reach its $5000 goal.
