Newcastle entered the match with three consecutive wins, but lost 2-0.
It was the same score the Sky Blues (Sydney FC) held Newcastle to in the season-opener in October.
Jets coach Gary van Egmond hoped Emile Heskey's return last weekend after a knee injury would have secured another win for the team.
Heskey's best chance at a goal came in the 36th minute, but his shot was blocked by defender Matt Jurman.
Van Egmond said he had not yet found the best way to utilise Heskey's skills.
Newcastle will take on Melbourne Victory in the ninth round this Sunday at AAMI Park.
