Newcastle Permanent's annual Carols by Candlelight proved more popular than ever, as sunny weather attracted more than 30,000 people.
The event started at 11am with the screening of Santa Claus: The Movie in the park. There were markets, arts and craft and amusement rides, hosted by Lake Macquarie City Council, before the carols concert and fireworks finale.
The council's giant Christmas tree, assembled only days beforehand as part of the mayor's toy appeal, was a success, as carollers gave generously to local charities that help those in need.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Jodie Harrison said the event was an all-round success.
"We had stunning weather, which was great, and the free kids' activities in the afternoon really went down a treat," Cr Harrison said.
