The men’s and women’s open singles events had the largest entry with the quality of players entered very high.
The open singles finals were played as The Star went to the press.
The men’s singles final was between Jason Taylor, ranked 80, from Port Macquarie and Nathan Doney, ranked 130 from Charmhaven, while the women’s final was between Julia Moriarty, ranked 23 from Cammeray, Sydney and Ashley Keir, ranked 34 from Canberra.
As indicated by the players' rankings, high-standard finals would be the order of the day. It was also great to see outstanding local juniors shine in the 18 and under boys’ singles event with Maitland’s Jordan Mcfayden defeating Whitebridge’s Rhys Searant in the final.
