Fort Scratchley to host sophisticated New Year's Eve party

FORT Scratchley is set to go off with a bang this New Year's Eve for the first time in more than a decade.

The restored historical barracks will be transformed into the set of a James Bond movie as revellers count down the clock to midnight.

Four local businesswomen, Vanessa Swilks, Jamie Lee Habeler, Sharon Waterhouse and Julie Wicks, have the licence to thrill, with about 300 guests expected at the event, called Get Fortified.

Ms Swilks said Get Fortified offered a more sophisticated option for party revellers on New Year's Eve in Newcastle.

Vodka martinis will be shaken, not stirred, while guests are encouraged to dress in a Bond-style tuxedo or as their favourite Bond villain or Bond babe.

Guests will also have prime position to view the 9pm fireworks in Newcastle Harbour.

Ms Swilks said some of the proceeds from the night will be given to The Fort Historical Society and the Hunter Children's Research Foundation.

■ Tickets for Get Fortified cost $195 and are available from Ticketek. Phone 4921 2121 for more information.
