Joyful voices raise a cheer in King Edward Park

PICNIC rugs, pull-out chairs and strollers filled King Edward Park last Friday night for the annual Newcastle Herald Newcastle City Carols by Candlelight.

Thousands arrived early to lay claim to the best seats as Mother Nature graced the crowds with good weather.

The mercury hovered around the 22 degrees Celsius mark and the crowds sang along with their favourite Christmas tunes as the sun went down, including Joy to the World and Deck The Halls.

Performers on the night included Bob Corbett, Adam Scicluna, Danni Hodson, Lauren Wheatley and Nicholas Thoroughgood.

It was the 28th year the Newcastle City Carols by Candlelight has been staged.
