Compared with the biggest mulloway he ever caught - 137 centimetres long - the 96-centimetre catch that earned him the Angler of the Year award in the inaugural Fishing Lake Macquarie Classic competition was an easy feat.
The competition in December was created by recreational group Fishing Lake Macquarie.
It raised more than $6000 for the John Hunter Children's Hospital.
Mr Lambert was one of about 300 participants.
Not only did he catch four of the five target species but Mr Lambert's mulloway was the biggest catch of the day.
As the angler of the year, he won $500, an expenses-paid marlin fishing trip and a new fishing rod and lures.
Awards were also given to participants who caught the largest fish in each category.
Mr Lambert said he enjoyed competitions for charity.
"It was an honour to enter and win. There was a lot of professionals out there and I was just in my tinny. It was just a bit of fun for a great cause and I'm glad I could help [raise money]."
