Many boats have been catching a mix of black and blue marlin and some striped marlin just for fun.

Anglers in smaller boats have also been enjoying plenty of smaller black marlin close inshore around the islands, even anglers targeting reef fish have had marlin grab baits as they sink and had their fish attacked on the way up.

Give the Fads off Nelson Bay, Newcastle and Swansea a look for dolphin fish.

Snapper have been another sought-after fish with some nice fish caught around Broughton Island and the reefs to the north.

Anglers fishing on the beaches have been getting some great whiting and flathead.

There have been a few tailor towards the northern end of Stockton Beach.

Blacksmiths Beach has been fishing well for whiting.
