Newcastle events to feature in It's On Destination NSW marketing campaign

NEWCASTLE is off to a busy and exciting 2014, which promises to get even better this month and next.

Newcastle and the wider Hunter is set to host high-profile events, from major concerts to international sporting competitions, bringing thousands of visitors to the region.

To promote these events, showcase our region and boost overnight visitors, the City of Newcastle and Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association are partnering with Destination NSW for the "It's ON! in Newcastle and The Hunter" marketing campaign.

It's ON! is a principal part of Destination NSW events marketing designed to create awareness of the state's unique events.

This is a fantastic initiative.

By taking a regional approach to events promotion, the council hopes to boost visitation by 10 per cent over the campaign period.

The aim is to welcome 142,450 visitors and increase overnight stays to 359,810, creating an estimated economic benefit of $56 million.

Partnering with Destination NSW gives the council a much wider reach.

Campaign events include Newcastle Jets games, Navy Australian Surf Rowers Open, Australian Bowl Riding Championships, Festival of Indigenous Rugby, Surfest, Super Rugby, live performances, festivals and many more.
