Tantrum received a $14,500 community investment grant from Orica Kooragang Island to stage the show, called Diving off the Edge of the World.
During the summer school holidays, the 12- to 26-year-olds rehearsed at the Canoe Pool next to Newcastle Ocean Baths.
The Canoe Pool, which used to be called the Mariners’ Pool, famously featured a large map of the world which was damaged in a storm and removed in the late 1960s.
Tantrum has used the pool map as inspiration for the show.
Performers will reconstruct the continents from the map, as well as perform a group choral piece on the bleachers and synchronised swimming piece.
■Diving off the Edge of the World is on at Newcastle Ocean Baths on February 14, 15, 21, and 22 at 8pm. Cost is $35 for adults, $25 for concession. Go online to www.stickytickets.com.au to book tickets.
