Caves Beach Surf Life Saving Club's Amy Gosling and Joel O'Callaghan capped off a stellar surf season at the NSW State Championships at Umina Beach earlier this month.
Amy won bronze in the under-13 flags division, while Joel took gold in the individual swim and board events.
Both helped their respective teams to sixth place, with Amy in the under-13s sprint relay and Joel in the under-10s board relay.
These achievements were just the icing on the cake.
Having been nippers since they were six, Amy and Joel have figured out their strengths and it showed in their performances this season.
This year, Amy won the Newcastle Permanent Junior Surf Series, which was judged on her results at a number of carnivals.
She excelled in flags, an event in which she has collected four state medals.
Joel, whose main events are swim and board, won the Cracker Ironman Championships at Blacksmiths Beach in November.
But neither is a one-trick pony.
While the pair wait for the warm weather to return, they will fill their fitness regime with other sports.
Amy plays Oztag and soccer, while Joel spends most of his spare time surfing.
Both are looking forward to another successful season when surf lifesaving resumes in October.
